DIRECTIONS - Gorge Creek Falls is located about 3 miles east of Newhalem along Highway 20. Park at the well signed lot and walk across the bridge for a really nice view of the falls and the impressive gorge way below the bridge.

Gorge Creek Falls that is a spectacular waterfall that is located on Highway 20 between Newhalem and Winthrop. Gorge Creek plunges into an extremely tight canyon in a series of plunging drops totally just over 300' in height. Just to the east of the falls by the parking lot is a small, pretty fan-shaped waterfall. By following the trail behind the bathroom you can see this same creek drop over a much taller waterfall into the Gorge Creek Canyon.

The falls occur where Highway 20 crosses about 200' above Gorge Creek. The area is well signed and is a great little rest stop on the way to the east side of the mountains. During normal water levels, the upper section of the falls is somewhat difficult to see but when the creek is running high (like the picture here) the falls can be seen fairly well.

If you want to see something really cool, check out the pictures taken by some canyoneers who rappelled down the waterfall by clicking . . . HERE.
